Why does the door get worse when you “ignore it”?

Because history still predicts pay.

The latch turns. The dog jumps or barks. Hands, a scold, or an open door used to follow. You change the rule. The dog runs the old program harder for a stretch. That stretch is the burst. If you open on the loudest second, you just paid the spike.

If the loudest second opens the door, you bought the burst.

How do you ride the burst without cloning wait-at-the-door?

Manage the body. Pay a quiet job. Keep the wait ladder on its own page.

1. Before the knock, the dog is leashed, gated, or crated so a spike cannot land on knees. See crate training if the crate is still a fight.
2. Name the quiet criterion you will pay: four paws, place, or a short wait already started on wait-at-the-door.
3. When the spike comes, you do not converse. Hands fold. Voice goes quiet. The latch stays shut on chaos.
4. The instant the quiet picture appears, mark and feed. Guests may greet only then, at chest height.
5. Hard arrivals stay managed until soft doorbell rehearsal reps are cheap.

Do not turn the burst into a new game by yanking, kneeing, or a long lecture. Suppression can look like manners and still teach that people at the door are dangerous.
